1. Location of the Work
The location of the work is in Division 1 of the Rural Municipality of Star City No. 428, at the crossing of the Leather River on grid road #776, approximately 8 miles (13 km) south and 7.5 miles (12 km) east of the junction of SK Highway #3 and grid road #776, near land location NE-20-43-16.
2. Description of the Site and Project
The river crossing site is presently occupied by a concrete deck, timber-supported bridge spanning over the existing stream crossing. The roadway is of nominally standard grid road cross section on both approaches, approximately 90 degrees to the stream. The stream is variable in depth, depending upon local moisture and rain conditions, and depending upon the activities of beavers both upstream and downstream of the crossing. The project work includes the removal of the existing bridge, and replacement of it with a corrugated steel pipe culvert. The project involves removal of beaver dams and temporary manipulation of the stream to facilitate construction. The roadway is to be returned to the ready-for-traffic state to complete the project.
3. Scope of Work
The scope of work for the project generally includes, the following activities and supply: (more detailed descriptions of the work are contained within the project documents).
• Remove the existing bridge deck rails and upper structure, and save re-useable materials
• Excavate, expose, rig, hoist and remove existing bridge concrete deck sections and set aside
• Haul reclaimed bridge deck sections to the storage area designated in the project documents
• Grub and clean the stream bed near the project area, reroute the stream temporarily for construction through the embankment, waste and dispose of unusable materials per the specifications and direction from the owner • Excavate, fill and compact, and otherwise properly prepare the excavation bed for the CSP culvert
• Supply, install and compact the new culvert in place per the drawings and specifications
• Prepare, level and grade the roadway over the new CSP installation to a traffic-ready state
• Clean up and dispose of all debris and extra earth materials, and haul them to the designated disposal area
