The Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency (SPSA) mission is to safeguard and protect the people, property, and resources of Saskatchewan through partnerships, coordinated planning, education, prevention, mitigation, response and recovery.
As a public safety agency for Saskatchewan, the SPSA employs and works very closely with many first responder personnel and has seen first-hand the success and the devastation that results from being in this line of work. It is imperative to acknowledge, honour and commemorate the losses that occur.
A physical monument erected in Wascana Centre would recognize the continual service and sacrifice of Saskatchewan’s first responder and public service sectors, whose deaths are attributable to their duties while keeping the province’s citizens and resources safe, including deaths that are recognized as a result of occupational illness inclusive of psychological impairment.
Objectives of this project are to:
• Align the memorial with that of the Saskatchewan Protective Services Medal.
• Provide a permanent and meaningful place of remembrance for family, friends, and the public to visit or host services.
