Major trends impacting e-resource authentication that have led us to consider an RFP for a new solution. The first trend is vendors’ slow transition away from hosted/on-premises software in favor of hosted/cloud options. The second trend is a broader move away from IP-based authentication in favor of federated access.  This trend is being hastened by upcoming privacy features being enabled in web browsers as part of the FedCM initiative, which will obscure end-user IP addresses and potentially make seamless IP authentication more difficult.
