WAN LAN Extensions -- CS-RFQ-0413
The Ministry of Central Services (Ministry) is acting on behalf of the GoS to qualify Suppliers for point to point dedicated Local Area Network (LAN) extension of a Wide Area Network (WAN), as it is further described on the attached document.
In Saskatchewan, almost all publicly funded provincial and First Nation schools, public libraries, regional colleges and Government offices are connected to a Wide Area Network called CommunityNet, established in 2001. It provides broadband connectivity between sites as well as providing access to the Internet and to provincial, national and international research networks.
CommunityNet has evolved from primarily a copper based service to predominantly fibre based connectivity. Facilities that cannot feasibly be connected to the network by terrestrial means have been connected via a two-way satellite service exclusively within the CommunityNet network or via point to point LAN connections.
