A geotechnical evaluation of Summercove Dam is to be completed to assess the stability and seepage conditions under select loading conditions.  This assessment will determine if the dam meets the Canadian Dam Association (CDA) 2007 Dam Safety Guidelines (2013 Revised) for stability and seepage.  The evaluation will be conducted in a phased approach.  Phase 1 will include reviewing existing data and developing representative material properties for the embankment and foundation materials.  A preliminary stability analysis will then be conducted using limit equilibrium techniques.  Finally, a report summarizing the preliminary analysis, knowledge gaps and a work plan for Phase 2 will be submitted to the client for review and acceptance.  Phase 2 will include a field investigation to verify the assumed representative material properties, finalize the stability evaluation and install instrumentation in the abutments, embankment, and foundation. If required a conceptual level design of necessary remediation will also be included.  The Consultant will engage a drilling contractor to undertake the field investigation and supply necessary instrumentation.

Summercove Dam is a Significant Consequence Dam located in SW 28-04-08 W3M, approximately 9.5 km southeast of the Village of Mankota, Saskatchewan.  The approximate location is shown in Figure 1.  The reservoir provides a water supply for the Village of Mankota and stock watering, it is also used recreationally by anglers and boaters. Major components of Summercove Dam include a homogeneous earthfill embankment, non-gated reinforced concrete overflow spillway, riparian outlet and a containment dyke.  The embankment includes a variable depth cutoff trench and upstream impervious blanket a downstream filter was installed at the old spillway channel.
