The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) is currently in the process of developing a standard provincial clean audit program for the healthcare environment as a strategic priority.

Environmental Services (EVS) is part of the Infrastructure, Information and Support (IIS) portfolio and is committed to inspiring public confidence through facility cleanliness and public reporting.

A successful clean audit program will provide quality assurance of all EVS services and meet accreditation requirements.

In March of 2019, Environmental Services and several stakeholders gathered to create a timeline of events and milestones for development of a clean audit program for the SHA. The four-year vision is to replicate the clean audit program to all SHA owned and operated healthcare facilities.  In year one (2019) we created, implemented and assessed the clean audit program, in one inpatient facility.  In year 2 & 3 we plan to fully implement the clean audit program in 11 large acute care and 48 acute care/LTC facilities in the province.

For year 2, the 11 acute care facilities have been grouped into 4 phases.  Each phase incorporates 14 weeks of preparation and training before the clean audit program goes live in a facility.  The phases will overlap but full implementation must be completed prior to the end of fiscal year 2020/2021. See appendix G (group A – site implementation timeline) for more information.  Group B phases have not been determined but each phase will incorporate the same 14 weeks of preparation as described in Appendix G.
